Boho Quilt Tutorial

Josie made this beautiful Boho style quilt using our pre-cut 10.5" square packs of Anna Maria Horner fabrics.

This is a fabulous way to make a quilt, as most of the cutting is done for you so it will come together very quickly!
Anna Maria's fabric designs are all so gorgeous and work so well together - and all of the vibrant colours and eclectic patterns are allowed to sing to their full potential in this simple layout.

Here are the instructions if you would like to make your own!

Create your Boho Square panel:

Lay out 35 x 10.5" Squares in a 7 x 5 formation and join using 1/4" seam allowance.
We like to sew together into rows, and then join the rows, nesting the seams as we go to achieve nicely aligned corners.
(Nesting seams is when you press your back seams in opposite directions so that they 'nestle' and lock together when you are joining. Here is link to a great tutorial.)

This gives you a quilt top measuring 127cm x 178cm. If you want an easier quilt, you can absolutely stop here!

to include the borders like Josie has done:

1. Add your 1.5" Narrow border:
You will need 35cm of fabric for this border, or more if you are fussy cutting.
The border requires approx 6.5m worth of 2" strips to go around the boho square edges - so to prepare your fabric, cut 6qty of 2" x 110cm WOF strips in total.
Cut and join your strips so you create 2 shorter lengths that are 130cm (e.g join 110cm + 20cm) and 2 longer lengths that are 190cm each (110cm + 80cm).
Attach the short lengths to the shorter edges of the quilt and trim to size.
Then attach the longer lengths to the long edges of the quilt and trim to size.

2. Add your 6.5" Outer border
You will need 1.5m of fabric for this border.
Cut 8qty of 7" x 110cm WOF strips
Join 2 strips to create a long strip measuring 220cm, repeat 3 more times.
As before, attach 2 of your lengths to the shorter sides of quilt top and trim to square.
Then attach the remaining 2 of your lengths to the longer sides of quilt top and trim to square.

Well done! Your finished quilt top should now be approximately 170cm x 220cm.

For finishing, you will need approximately 4m of 110cm wide fabric, or 2m of wideback (2.4m WOF) and also 7.8m of Bias binding.
