Quilt with Judy Newman / 4th, 5th, 6th June 2026

We are so lucky to have the beautiful Judy Newman back at C&I in 2026 for another small series of workshops.

Workshops will be held on 3 days, you can attend 1, 2 or all 3 days.
Price is per day - please purchase a ticket for any of the days you would like to attend.

Judy has loved needle and thread her whole life, and is an inspiring, talented, welcoming and generous teacher.  She has been designing quilts and teaching for many years, authored books for Quiltmania and designs her own fabric ranges for Devonstone Collections. 

Her quilts are generally made in soft colours with occasional pops of muted brights, vintage style and inspired. Hand piecing, EPP and applique are her preferred methods of patchwork and she loves to assist with colour choices, mixing up scale and density to help create beautiful quilts for her students. Judy loves to hand quilt, the gentle rhythm of the needle through the thread is comforting and slow but gives her time to think about what comes next as her quilts are rarely planned from beginning to end, they evolve with the colours and prints as she uses them.

Judy loves teaching patchwork and quilting and is grateful that it enables her to travel the world passing on this wonderful craft. In her workshop, you have the freedom to work on any desired quilt from her range of patterns, receiving tips and guidance from the expert herself. 

We will have the following patterns available for the workshop: Primrose(new!), Talula, Agnes, Strawberry Fields, Settle, The Dutch Darning Sampler, Posy, Portmeirion, Vermont Summer Medallion, and Fleurs Garden, plus more.

*All quilt patterns, templates and kits will be for sale in-store and online a week or two prior to the workshops. We already have a few of Judy's patterns in store - if you can't make it in to browse they can be viewed online here.

If you were looking for a fabric kit for a particular quilt please let us know in advance so that we can accomodate.

All levels of quilting experience welcomed. 

As a general guide please bring;

• embroidery scissors
• range of needles and threads 
• your Judy quilt pattern of choice along with fabrics (though you can choose on the day if you'd like guidance from Judy)
• notebook and pen
• your own lunch (a light morning tea will be provided)
• If you would like to bring any of your completed Judy quilts to show us all you are also invited to do so!

PLEASE READ - Workshop Policy:

• All workshops to be paid in full at the time of booking.
• Bookings can be made online, in-store or over the phone on (08) 9383 3794.
• Workshop fees will be refunded if workshop is cancelled by Calico & Ivy. 
• Tuition + travel fees for visiting teachers are paid upfront by us, as such no refunds for tickets will be possible - but you are welcome to transfer your class to a friend if you are unable to attend.
• Please remember that while our staff will be present to assist Judy, we are also open as a retail shop and our attention will be shared with other customers and shop duties. Patience and courtesy is appreciated and a requirement from all class participants.
• Please do not attend workshops if you are ill/sick as this compromises the health of everybody else in the space and puts any of our immunocompromised customers/staff at risk.
