Basic Hats 4 Week Knitting Course

Cost: $160 per person, includes 4 weeks tuition, pattern and light refreshments.

This 4 week knitting course is designed to teach you how to use circular needles to knit your own Purl Soho 'Basic Hat' - including working in the round and using the magic loop technique. Learning to knit in the round will open up so many new possibilities and patterns for you, from garments to toy knitting!

The pattern we will be using is the Purl Soho 'Basic Hats for Everyone' which is a beautiful beanie style knit with different options and stylistic flourishes - we will work on the basic ribbed in adult size for this workshop. Each Saturday, Daniella will guide you through a different aspect of creating your own beautiful beanie style hat - including the ribbed brim, stockinette body and optional pompom!

Course outline:

Week 1 - Introduction to Circular needles (interchangeable vs fixed) and beginning casting on.

Week 2 - Working through ribbing and body of hat.

Week 3 - Continue body + introduction to decreasing in magic loop.

Week 4 - Completing project + troubleshooting ideas for your next project!

This class is perfect for those who have an understanding of knitting but have not attempted knitting on circular needles. We welcome confident beginners with a basic knitting knoweldge - please give us a call to chat about suitability if you are unsure! Capacity will be capped at 8 to ensure we all get adequate assistance.

Requirements:
+ 3.5mm Circular Needles 80cm Long - E.g Addi fixed circulars or interchangable
+ Basic knitting supplies like stitch markers and Snips or scissors.
+ Yarn: 2 balls of DK Yarn Eg. Double Sunday or Peer Gynt
+ Optional: Pom Pom maker

All of these tools/materials will be available for purchase at Calico & Ivy on the day, and Dany will take you through the pros/cons of fixed and interchangeable needles at the beginning of the course.

Pattern is included in class fee - we will purchase and provide the ‘Purl Soho Basic Hats for Everyone' knitting pattern for each participant.

Recommended Gauge
24 stitches and 34 rounds = 4 inches in stockinette stitch
