Mary Jane Mucklestone Day 3
Calico & Ivy is deliriously happy to welcome Mary Jane to Australia, this is her first stop and her final workshop with us before she leaves WA to continue her tour. With small group size (maximum 12 per class) you will receive plenty of individual attention, as well as encouragement to try something new.
Description: Experience Mary Janes's signature Fair Isle knitting class. This will be a day spent exploring colour and pattern. It introduces colour theory and the use of those principles to guide your colour choices, and how different colour choices can completely alter the appearance of motifs.
Learn how traditional Fair Isle knitting differs from other world knitting traditions and how traditional methods make the work efficient. Try different ways of holding your yarn and understand 'colour dominance'. You will leave with improved confidence choosing and adapting pattern motifs and colours.
A full day workshop allows the knitting of a substantial sized piece (either a wristlet or fingerless glove).
Skill Level: You will find this workshop suitable if you are an intermediate knitter. Skills required: experience in stranded colourwork, experience knitting a small diameter piece in the round. If you are already an experienced colourwork knitter, you will expand your horizons and enjoy learning from one of the world's best colourwork teachers.
Bio: Mary Jane Mucklestone is a designer of knitwear, teacher and is the author of six books on stranded colourwork knitting, the latest of which is Grand Shetland Adventure Knits which she has co-authored with her friend and fellow designer Gudrun Johnston.
MJ loves teaching and is excited to bring these workshops to Australia and spend time with the Calico & Ivy community. All her classes incorporate her knowledge and passion for history, fashion, craft and location intersect.
